Cuando “echamos” a volar el robot…/ When we made the robot fly…

Lo recuerdo como si hubiera sido ayer, mi capitán Victor Huicochea y yo, estábamos trabajando en la parte electrónica del robot, queríamos hacer que el robot se moviera por primera vez. Hicimos todas las conexiones que se necesitaban para que los motores y sensores corrieran correctamente. El robot en si no estaba construido, solamente teníamos la parte del chasis construida, arriba de este pusimos la tabla electrónica junto con la batería, el RoboRio, el modem, los drivers, etc. Ya que estaba todo en su ‘lugar’, pongo lugar entre comillas porque no pusimos las cosas realmente en su lugar solo las pusimos ahí para hacer la prueba y que así se moviera el robot, conectamos el modem a la computadora para correr el programa, estaba todo listo, ya solo era cosa de que el robot se moviera. Aquí entra uno de los momentos que más recordare de esta experiencia, que es FIRST, se me dio la oportunidad de ser la persona encargada de que el robot caminará por primera vez, con mucho valor tome el control y moví la palanca. El robot se movió, fue entonces cuando mi compañero y yo nos desbordamos de emoción, sabíamos que ese era el comienzo de algo grande, lo que puedo compartir de este momento es que fue “un pequeño paso para el robot pero un gran salto para el equipo”.

I remember it like it was yesterday, my captain and I, were working on the electronic part of the robot, we wanted the robot to move for the first time. We made all the connections needed for the motors and sensors to work correctly. The robot wasn’t constructed completely, we just had the chassis, at the top of it we placed the electronic table with the battery, the RoboRio, the modem, the drivers, etc. Once it was all “accommodated”, I put it in quotation marks because the things weren't really accommodated they were only there so we could see the robot moving, we connected the modem to the computer to run the program, it was all set, we only needed the robot to move.

One of the moments I will remember the most from this experience, that is FIRST, was born here, I was given the chance to be in charge of the robot to move for the first time, I was handling the control with a lot of courage and then, I moved the lever. The robot moved, after that my partner and I were tremendously happy and excited, we knew it was the beginning of something really big, within what I can share from this moment is that “it was one small step for the robot and one giant leap for the team.”
